05-14-2026 Jackson, Wyoming, The Virginian RV Park

Today is a travel day to Jackson, Wyoming. We left at 11:00 AM, filled the RV with gas, and pointed Julie (the name of our RV) toward Wyoming. The drive was so pretty.

Once we got into the mountains and followed the Snake River on Highway 26 to Highway 89, the scenery was beautiful and took your breath away. I don’t think we have ever had such a majestic drive. The road was windy and hard to take pictures, so I decided not to and just enjoy the view. We followed the Snake River, and while driving along Palisades Reservoir, I saw about a dozen Osprey nests. They were all along the highway. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never seen so many Osprey Nests. What a treat!

The small towns along this route are picturesque. I can see why people move here. There seem to be a lot of new buildings along this route. We also saw half a dozen rafters along the river. The highest elevation we hit was around 6,000 feet.

We arrived at the RV park around 2:15 and checked in. The person checking us in said we didn’t owe anything because the county told them they couldn’t take reservations until the end of this month, but they had already started, as they always have. There were a few other issues with the county, so the RV park couldn’t cancel all the reservations; instead, they decided to charge everyone $50.00/night, which is the resort fee. We were shocked, but we just kept nodding as she explained a bunch of details. They just saved us $350.00. One of the details she told us was that there are new owners, and they are tearing out the RV park and putting in condos...oh joy. Bummer for RVers, since there aren't many RV parks in this area.

After setting up our Julie, we decided to go downtown and walk around. First stop was a jewelry store for a screw back to one of my diamond earrings. I found it missing when we were at The Celt Pub and Grill last night. I lost just the backing, but my earring was still in. I would have cried if I lost it. I had them made from one of Mom’s cocktail rings. They had a pair in white gold, so I was a happy camper. One of the places we wanted to hit was Wyoming Whiskey for tasting. We found it and had a great time tasting eight different whiskeys. What an experience. We bought two bottles and some bitters. Cannot wait to try some cocktails with what we bought.

The rest of the day, we walked around and went into a few shops. Some stores are pretty high-end. We decided to eat dinner at Roadhouse Pub & Eatery. They are also a brewery. Barry liked their beer, and I had a Wyoming Sour made with Wyoming Whiskey, and it was deeeelicious. It was 8:00 PM by the time we finished dinner. We walked down to the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. The woman who checked us in at the RV park told us we have to visit. It’s mainly known for the live western music and the steakhouse downstairs. We peeked inside the bar, and it is huge. Not what we expected. The place is beautiful. It’s a Wyoming landmark and has been around since 1937. We may try it another night, but we’re not sure we can handle the country music for very long.

It was late and starting to get cold, so we decided to get back to our warm RV. Tomorrow we are going to the Grand Tetons National Park for the day.
