29 May 2025, Andersonville, Georgia to  Oak Mountain State Park, Alabama Jeeps- 2 We were up early. We needed to meet Cynthia Stormcaller at the Little Drummer Boy Museum to pay our Campground fee before we left this morning. She is the Curator of the museum, as well as the Director of Tourism for Andersonville. She also does tours at Andersonville National Cemetery and Park. Very knowledgeable about the area.  The museum is a treasure trove of original artifacts from the Civil War. The uniform display is a notable highlight. There are artifacts from Gettysburg, Shiloh, Andersonville, and other notable battles. There is a mannequin dressed in a full silk dress with the history behind it posted in front of it. All the displays feature a history of each piece. My favorite uniform was the Zouave Drummer Boy uniform. The uniform is in excellent condition. According to the card, there is only one other known uniform in the Little White House Museum in Richmond, Virginia. Another f...

27 May 2025, Andersonville RV Park, Andersonville, Georgia Jeeps – 1 (ours) Barry has come down with a cold, so he slept a little later this morning.  Our first stop was the National Prisoner of War Museum . It’s a beautiful brick building next to the Andersonville Prison Site . The gift shop is located to the left upon entry, and I stamped my passport books. I then purchased the stickers I needed for my passport books and a Christmas ornament. We then watched the 27-minute movie Echoes of Captivity , narrated by Colin Powell. It covered POWs from the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and the First Gulf War, including a woman pilot. If you have the time, click on the link to watch the film. One of the service members interviewed was Senator John McCain. As I was writing this blog, I conducted a Google search for John McCain and ended up down a rabbit hole, where I discovered the program from the dedication ceremony of the museum. It contains a wealth of valuable information. Please t...

26 May 2025, Memorial Day, Albany, Georgia to Andersonville RV Park, Andersonville, Georgia Jeeps – 1 (ours) Before we left Albany, we decided to walk to the park office and tell whoever was there how beautiful their park was. It is one of the nicest we have stayed at. The owners, a husband-and-wife team, were so kind and thankful that we loved our stay. We talked for about twenty minutes. They have good friends who live south of Portland. They would love to visit Oregon someday. I don’t know why we didn’t get their names. Let’s call them John and Jan.  We talked about the ducks and geese in the pond. John told us about a husband and wife who had a fight and lived in the area. The husband took the wife’s pet duck and dropped it off in the pond about four months ago. The wife came down a few days later and tried to rescue her duck, but had no luck. John and Jane told her she could come back the next day and try again.  The woman tried to catch her duck by using a net that Jane ...
