05-22-2026 Friday Lamar Valley, Sough Creek Hike, Yellowstone

Today’s destination is Lamar Valley. This valley is supposed to be full of wildlife if you get into the area around 5:30 or 6:30 AM. From Fishing Bridge, it was an hour-and-a-half drive, so an early morning was not possible for us.  I think if we ever come back, we would stay in West Yellowstone and get there early in the morning. West Yellowstone has a nice-looking RV park.   We did stop at an overlook area, and a person who works for Yellowstone Forever had a scope hooked up to her iPhone. She let us look through it. We saw a black wolf running through the valley. Such a beautiful sight. Barry and I decided we are going to get a scope as she has. It will be great for all the NP Sites we plan on visiting. She had a map that showed each area where the different wolf packs hang out. The name of each pack is in the colored area of the map.  We stopped at the Tower Falls area and took photos. 005-18-2026, Monday, Yellowstone National Park

This morning, the temperature was in the 40s but felt colder due to the wind. The drive to West Yellowstone was beautiful, and there were not many cars.  We started out our morning seeing a Pine Marten playing in and out of the recycling bins in front of the RV Park Office. He was adorable.  As we were getting ready to turn at the West Thumb and Old Faithful intersection, we had to stop along with a few other cars because two Elk were crossing the road. One had a tracker around her neck. Our first stop was Old Faithful. I remember seeing it when I came through here on a band trip in high school. Barry remembered seeing it when his family drove to New Brunswick, Canada, for vacation. We checked out the next expected time for it to do its thing, which was in about an hour. I went into the gift shop to get my passport stamps and stickers.  We got a great viewing spot and waited for Old Faithful to go off. The wind was so cold, but we were not going to miss it.
