05-30-2025, Florida Key West Trip 3/27 – 6/30 2025, 96 Days, 7986 Miles, 44 Stops
Jeeps – 16
We left Oak Mountain around 10:00 AM. Our next destination is Red Bay, Alabama, to the Tiffin Service Center. As we were leaving Oak Mountain, we stopped at an area where there was a lake. The area had ski jumps, wakeboard rails, and a large water park. There was a beautiful pavilion on the shore. This park has so much to offer. Unfortunately, it’s in Alabama, as it would be an excellent location for our Family Picnic, which we hold every summer.
We arrived at Tiffin around 1:00 PM. We checked in at the office and then drove to our site. Barry contacted Shawn Cole to let him know we arrived. The purpose of our trip here is to take an orientation tour of our coach and discuss a few other matters. Since we were going through Alabama, we might as well take advantage. We had to cancel a few other stops, but we felt it was worth it.
We learned quite a bit from Shawn, especially about the slides and how to sync them, as well as the names of all the people at Tiffin Customer Service, including those responsible for electrical, upholstery, parts, interior paint, maintenance, and jack tips. He also showed us we have an over-the-air antenna that we didn’t know about. The signal is so clear. Shawn was impressed by how clean our coach is and how much we know about RVing. We explained we had a houseboat for twenty years and how they are similar. He asked Barry what steps he takes when plugging in power. Barry answered, and Shawn responded, “You are the only one in the last thirty people to answer correctly.”
We asked what he would recommend to us at this time. His answer was to upgrade the batteries to lithium-ion and install Starlink on the roof. Dish and DirecTV are going by the wayside. They don’t even install them anymore. Things for us to think about. He also provided us with the name of a person in the Sacramento area who is a Tiffin expert and has worked for Tiffin for years. This person is the only one he would trust with Tiffin coaches on the West Coast. Shawn did not charge us the $400 they usually would for this type of walk-through. We loved that!
After Shawn left, we felt relieved about a lot of our issues. I cooked a pasta bake in our convection microwave oven for the first time. It came out great. I will have to experiment more.
Sweet Dreams.
