23 May 2025, Summer Crush Vinyard, Fort Pierce, Florida
Jeeps – 3
Today is another drive day. We are leaving the peacocks and heading for Summer Crush Vineyard. Summer Crush is a Harvest Host, so this will be our first boondocking in our new rig.
Most of today’s drive is on the Florida Turnpike for about three hours. The turnpike road conditions were excellent except where there was construction.
We arrived at Summer Crush Vineyard. What a beautiful place. RV sites are equipped with power and water, but you will need to pay for it. If not, you boondock, which is what we thought we would be doing. We were unaware they had power and water, so we were happy to pay for it.
After we got set up, we walked to the tasting room. The person conducting our tasting was fun. She gave us the history of the winery. This winery produces only wine made from muscadine grapes. It is a sweet grape, unlike those grown in California or Oregon. Exciting flavors. We have never tasted anything like it. We ended up buying seven bottles. They host concerts on the weekends in their Surf Room Pavilion. The owner is a surfer. The concert area features tables made from surfboards. Pretty ingenious.
After tasting and dinner, we walked the winery grounds. There are several RV sites, which are better than some RV parks we have stayed at. A river runs through the back of the property and has alligator warning signs. There is also a pond with fish and a large soft-shell turtle.
After wandering around the winery and finding the brick walkway with quotes embedded in the bricks, we checked with Jan and Ken about tomorrow and retired for the evening.
