Jacqueline’s Jaunts

We stayed in camp today. It was a utility day: laundry, change sheets, and plan the next 3 days. Barry fixed the water hose and the broken chain on the medicine cabinet in the half bath, washed the Jeep windows, and stocked our drink cooler in the basement. I did laundry most of the day.  I caught up on my blog for this trip. I’m also trying to catch up on my blog posts from our trip to Key West last year. I think I still have about sixteen days to write. We also went to Hawaii last November, and I didn’t even write anything about that... One of our friends, Ken Reynolds, told us we had to try the grilled cheese sandwich at the Fishing Bridge General Store, so that’s what we did for dinner. It was yummy. Barry also had tomato soup. This morning, the temperature was in the 40s but felt colder due to the wind. The drive to West Yellowstone was beautiful, and there were not many cars.  We started out our morning seeing a Pine Marten playing in and out of the recycling bins in front of the RV Park Office. He was adorable.  As we were getting ready to turn at the West Thumb and Old Faithful intersection, we had to stop along with a few other cars because two Elk were crossing the road. One had a tracker around her neck. Our first stop was Old Faithful. I remember seeing it when I came through here on a band trip in high school. Barry remembered seeing it when his family drove to New Brunswick, Canada, for vacation. We checked out the next expected time for it to do its thing, which was in about an hour. I went into the gift shop to get my passport stamps and stickers.  We got a great viewing spot and waited for Old Faithful to go off. The wind was so cold, but we were not going to miss it.     Travel day from Jackson, Wyoming, to Yellowstone National Park. This park has been on my bucket list forever, and I cannot believe we are on our way there. Beautiful drive and not too many cars. We did hit snow flurries.  We found our way to Fishing Bridge RV Park and pulled in. A volunteer motioned us to pull forward to him. He was so funny. He had to tell Barry, “I can tell you’re an experienced driver. Thank you so much.” He then directed us to the upper parking lot. Once parked, we walked to the office to register.  We are in loop E all the way in the back, and we love it. Our site is back in, but the concrete pads are nice and flat. Per the RV park, we are to disconnect our water hose at night to prevent it from freezing. As Barry was setting up the hose, the end broke. After checking with the office and the General Store down the road, we have to make a 90-minute drive to West Yellowstone tomorrow. It’s on the way to Old Faithful, so the decision was made f...

Relief of the Tetons showing the names of the mountains.  Today we took the shuttle boat to the other side of Jenny Lake. It was cold going across the lake. It was like going across Lake McClure in our ski boat in the winter. We dressed for it, so it was not too bad. Surprisingly, the boat was full.  It was a half-mile hike to Hidden Falls, then another to Inspiration Falls. Hidden Falls was beautiful, and the rushing sound it made as it wound down from the Tetons was extraordinary. Standing on the bridge that crossed the falls, you could feel the spray. The trail ends at the base of the falls, and what a pretty sight. We sat there for a bit, enjoying the sound of the water crashing to the bottom.
