08 June 2025, Holdenville, Oklahoma

We slept in and did a few chores this morning: today’s agenda, another cemetery, Holdenville Cemetery. The drive was about an hour and fifteen minutes from our RV park in Sulphur. My Grandma Griffin’s older brother and sister-in-law are buried here, Herbert and Ethel Landrum. I know most of the people I have visited are on Find A Grave, but I want the photos I use to be mine and to include the GPS coordinates.

This is a large cemetery for such a small town, and it is beautifully maintained. We found their gravesites right away, thanks to the information provided by the Find A Grave source person. They included a map and the plot information. After the cemetery, we drove through what remains of Holdenville today, which is not much. It’s so sad to see all these old towns boarded up and deserted. To think they were once bustling with activity.

Since we would be going by Stonewall on our way back, I wanted to stop at Highland Cemetery one more time and talk to my Great Grandpa John McCurdy. I wanted to ask for his help again. I can’t seem to locate his father. Maybe the third time asking, he will help. I know, sounds crazy, but you never know. I took a photo of more ancestors I forgot to the other day,  A. P. and Elizabeth Gray.

We decided to try the diner that was recommended to us by Echo, the person in the office at the RV park we are staying at. The place is called Fat Bullys by the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. From the outside, it’s not much, but the inside looked brand new. One of the servers said they just added on. Barry had a burger, and I had a chicken burger with a piece of chicken breast that was the size of Paul Bunyan’s hand. I usually don’t like chicken breast, but this was really tender and juicy. Still did not eat it all. The fries were delicious.

We made it home before the storm hit. We stood outside for a bit and watched the lightning across the sky. Most of the lightning was horizontal. Amazing how different the lightning looks out here compared to Florence, Oregon.
