05-15-2026 Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
We left around 9:00 AM. I packed a cooler with sandwiches and fruit for lunch. We had to wind through town a bit to get to the highway into the park. Before we left home (Oregon), I purchased an app called GuideAlong. The app is free, but you have to pay for tours of different National Parks. It’s a GPS-based audio tour app that acts like a personal guide in your car. It plays location-triggered stories, history, and travel tips as you drive. I purchased the tour for Grand Teton and Yellowstone. It’s a package. I think I paid around $25.00, and it was the best $25.00 I have spent for something like this. If you're traveling to National Parks, I highly recommend this app. It was great. We followed the map as we drove around the 45-mile loop.
By following GuideAlong, we saw everything in the park we wanted to see: Mormon Row, Chapel of the Transfiguration, Menors Ferry Historic District, Numerous views of the Tetons, Passport Stamps at Jenny Lake Visitor Center and the Visitor Center in Moose, Jenny Lake, String Lake, Jackson Lake Dam where we saw an American White Pelican waiting for fish at the Jackson Lake Dam spillway, a dozen or so of Elk, about 300+ Tatonka (Lakota for Bison) and calves. At some spots, we sat for a bit and enjoyed the silence until we couldn’t anymore (invasion of humans).
I didn’t take any photos of the Bison because I felt they wouldn't convey how large the herd was, and you wouldn't be able to see the calves in the grass. We observed them with our binoculars, which really gave us great close-ups. Most of the bulls were molting their winter coats.
This park is truly a national treasure. The only words I can think of are MAJESTICALLY MAGNIFICENT. Everywhere has a view of the Tetons. We could not ask for better weather this time of year.
We had dinner at the Noodle Kitchen Sushi Bar. It was excellent, and we highly recommend it.
Back to the RV to update blogs, a bit of housekeeping, and get ready for tomorrow. What a wonderful day.
This is a brass fish attached to a rock in the area, I saw the pelican.
Stone wall along Jackson Lake Trail. This is an American White Pelican. I had no idea there were freshwater pelicans. Cattleman's Bridge
This is off the main road but not really marked. GuideAlong told us about it. We found it very interesting.
