05-31-2025, Florida Key West Trip 3/27 – 6/30 2025, 96 Days, 7986 Miles, 44 Stops
31 May 2025, Red Bay, Alabama, Tiffin Service Center to R & R Winery, Harvest Host, Greensprings, Mississippi
Today’s drive was mainly on county roads. When we crossed into Mississippi, we didn’t see a sign for about a mile, and then we almost missed it. I had Barry stop, and I walked back to the sign, about 60 feet.
We arrived around 3:00 PM. Once parked and set up, it’s time for wine tasting. Whoever thought we would be wine tasting in Mississippi? The winery has a cool tasting room. The tasting room looks like a dining room. A couple was tasting when we entered. We ended up talking to them for an hour. Both are X-ray techs in a hospital about 45 miles from here. We never stopped talking about kids, family, retirement, bugs in the south, health care, wine tasting, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Ruth and Rich Romanowski own R & R Winery. Ruth informed us that the winery was having its last Saturday of the month dinner with live music. They do this on the 2nd and last Saturday of the month. We said count us in. She was in and out of pouring us our wine and cooking dinner. The band arrived around 5:00 PM, consisting of one guitarist and an electric ukulele. The other couple left, and the band asked us what type of music we liked. I answered with anything but country. They were OK with that. They pass around an iPad with a playlist, and you request songs from the playlist.
There were only about 15 of us in attendance, which made it a fun event. At 6:00 PM, Ruth and her husband served us dinner: chicken breast, roast beef, or ribs. The meats were served with green beans, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and roasted carrots. The dinner tasted just like a home-cooked meal. The dessert was a Blueberry pound cake, and it was yummy.
We made friends with the woman sitting next to us, who was the lead singer’s sister. I would tell her a song from the list, and she would tell her brother. I couldn’t talk loudly enough for him to hear me. As the night wore on, the joke became that he didn’t play about ½ the songs I chose. Apparently, the ukulele guy made the final decision. It was pretty funny. We all got a great laugh out of it. Talk about a hoot of a time.
It was a fabulous evening and not what we were expecting—so much fun. Wine, food, and fun music...how much better can it get?
