05-11-2025, Florida Key West Trip 3/27 – 6/30 2025, 96 Days, 7986 Miles, 44 Stops
11 May 2025, Boyd’s Key West Campground, Key West, Florida
Jeeps- 10
This campground has its alarm clock roosters. They are up by 5:00 AM every morning. Chickens in Key West are protected even from feeding. You can be fined! They are everywhere, even in open-air restaurants. They are very comical. Our little black chicken loves our site. She hopped up on our table and sat there for a while. The other day, Ken was petting her. We can tell what time it is in the evening. Around 7:15 PM, she hopped up on our table, then hopped up to the top of the hedge, and walked along the top to the end and got into her roosting place, hiding from the predators.
Barry and I explored the southern part of the island today. We stopped at a farmer’s market in the Higgs Beach area. There was a lot of cool stuff, but we didn’t buy anything.
We wove our way over to the Southernmost Point Buoy. We would have stopped, but the line was about 45 minutes long. We plan on coming back in the evening. From here, we found a parking lot on the corner of Duvall and Caroline and paid for the whole day. We texted J&K to see where they were, and they were at the other end of Duvall. We walked around the corner to a shop we visited the other day, Duval 222. I bought a backpack I saw the other day.
Barry wanted to go to the Green Parrot Bar, so we headed there. Doc Elliot and Friends band were playing, and we loved them. After a few beers, we went into the store and purchased t-shirts.
We walked around a little more and decided to eat an early dinner at First Flight. This building was Pan American’s first office and the site of the first flight to Cuba. Our meals were excellent. Barry had skirt steak, and I had deep-fried lobster. I discovered that my rice was seasoned with Adobo, and it was the best-tasting rice, aside from the coconut rice.
After, we drove down to the Pier looking for Mallory Square. Most of the shops were closed, so we decided to end our day and head home. Tomorrow is our boat trip to Dry Tortugas National Park, and we have a lot to prepare for.
