02/21/22 Weekly Recap

JAUNTS
Tuesday, we went to Modesto to visit Uncle Richard and his fiancé Laura. He had grandpa’s wooden plates grandpa brought back from Germany when he fought in World War II. My mom gave them to Uncle Richard at some point and now he was moving in with Laura, he was passing them onto me. I've only had photos of these and now I have the actual plates. My heart is happy!! Laura fixed us a great lunch and her daughter Linda and son-in-law Walt joined us. They wanted to meet us before the wedding in April. We had a great time and look forward to getting to know them. 

Spent Friday and Saturday at our friends Ken & Jan Reynolds. We worked Friday afternoon on our trip to The Mighty Five Parks in Utah next year. This includes Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, and Zion National Park. We will be gone for over a month and it takes a bit of planning for a trip this long. We made great progress. For dinner Jan baked a lasagna with homemade noodles Aaron made. Dinner was yummy. The next day Aaron, Brook and their kids came over for pizza. Brook made the pizzas and Ken cooked the pizzas in their pizza oven in the backyard. Again, a yummy meal. 

VOLUNTEER WORK
I spent numerous hours on CGS emails, putting together information on spreadsheets, and trying to get a plan together for myself since I’m in charge of booking speakers for CGS. I feel tremendous pressure right now with this new responsibility. 

WEBINARS
I only attended the following, From Piles to Files: Organize Your Genealogy presented by Teresa Steinkamp McMillin. 

CALLS
Met with Lisa on Monday. Asked her to give her farm talk and she agreed. I attended our Amigos call on Thursday, Linda and Stuart were not able to attend. 

OTHER STUFF
I finely pulled the plug and purchased Photoshop Elements and decided to buy Photoshop Elements for Dummies. Now to learn to use it. 

I used my new photo box to take the photos below and I’m happy with this purchase. These are the plates from my grandfather I referred to above.

Honey Grove is known as "The Sweetest Town in Texas." When settlers arrived, they found numerous bee hives in the county.  I never thought in a million years I would visit Texas.  Just not a state I was interested in, even though my Dad was born and lived here until he was fourteen. Last year, my friend Lisa Gorrel and I decided to plan a trip for genealogy. 03-16-22 Crescent City, California (Day Trip - Grove of the Titans)

03-16-22 Wednesday  Crescent City, California Crescent City Jeeps in Parking Lot: 2 Drive Time: 0 Miles: 0 Arrived: 0 Woke up to a beautiful morning. Simple breakfast of cereal and a banana. Cleaned up a bit and ready to explore the Redwoods. We stopped by the KOA office to let them know our cable signal was very snowy and the cable line had water in it. Also asked about the channels. The channels listed on the paper with the map of the park is wrong. The woman behind the counter says they change cable providers often so it’s never right....uuummmm. No comment from me. We bought a couple of nice lightweight jackets and off to the National Park Visitor Center in Crescent City.  Zoom in for details At the visitor center I got my passport stamp and purchased a few stickers for my passport book. The Ranger behind the counter pulled out a map and showed us how to get to Howland Road and some ideas for hikes in the area. One he told us about was a hike to the ‘Grove of Titans.’ This...

2023-03-25 Saturday Pismo Beach Oceano Campground

My Man! Steps today - 14,442 Saturday, and so much for sleeping in. The Reynolds daughter Brook, son-in-law Aaron, granddaughter Kensley, and grandson Arik arrived this morning. Soon we heard Kensley and Arik at our door to say hello. They seemed excited to see us, and they gave big hugs to both of us. Then, they told us about school, and everything they have been doing, as much as an 8 and 10-year-old can say to you. Then back over to abuela and papa's RV.  Soon after, we were off to Pismo Beach. We drove to the left, went as far as we could, then turned around and headed toward the far-end gate. The part of the beach you can drive on was so short compared to before, but it was due to the recent storms. The Reynolds were ahead of us, and as we passed the first gate, a guy flagged us down.
